Brain Haemorrhage (Intracranial Hemorrhage) A brain haemorrhage is bleeding inside or around the brain due to rupture of a blood vessel. It is a medical emergency because the bleeding damages brain tissue and increases intracranial pressure. 🔹 Types Intracerebral Hemorrhage (ICH): Bleeding within brain tissue. Subarachnoid Hemorrhage (SAH): Bleeding into the space between brain and arachnoid membrane (commonly from aneurysm rupture). Subdural Hematoma: Bleeding between dura and arachnoid (often trauma). Epidural Hematoma: Bleeding between skull and dura (usually trauma, arterial bleed). Intraventricular Hemorrhage: Bleeding into brain ventricles. 🔹 Causes Hypertension (most common for ICH) Trauma / head injury Aneurysm rupture Arteriovenous malformation (AVM) Blood clotting disorders / anticoagulant use Brain tumors (vascular ones) Drug abuse (cocaine, amphetamines) 🔹 Symptoms Sudden, severe headache (“thunderclap headache” in SAH) Nausea, vomiting Weakness or numbness on one side Vision problems, speech difficulty Seizures Loss of consciousness / coma Neck stiffness (especially in SAH)
