It causes sudden, severe, stabbing or electric shock-like facial pain — usually on one side of the face. ⚠️ Symptoms Sudden, severe, sharp, shooting facial pain Pain lasts seconds to a few minutes Occurs in bouts or attacks (may be triggered by touching the face, chewing, brushing teeth, talking, or even wind) Usually affects: Cheek (maxillary branch) Jaw (mandibular branch) May have pain-free periods between attacks Over time, attacks can become more frequent and severe 📌 Causes Most common: Compression of the trigeminal nerve by a nearby blood vessel (usually an artery) — called Neurovascular compression Other causes: Multiple sclerosis (demyelination of the nerve) Tumor pressing on the trigeminal nerve Nerve injury or trauma
